Baptism 1.png

Holy Baptism is the gift of our Lord Jesus Christ

It marks the beginning of a journey with God
which continues for the rest of our lives,
the first step in response to God’s love.
For all involved it is a joyful moment
when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ.
Family, friends and the wider community of the Church
gather in welcome,
promising support and prayer for the future.
Hearing and doing these things provides an opportunity
to remember our own baptism and reflect on our faith journey,
which is to be shared with this new member of the Church.

BAPTISM / CHRISTENING

The sacrament of Holy Baptism or "Christening" marks the beginning of a journey with God, and becoming a member of the Church. Baptisms are usually conducted during the 10am Sunday Eucharist when the congregation is present to welcome and support the new member. In baptism the person is given the new life of Christ and becomes part of the family of God. The person to be baptised (or the parents and godparents of an infant) must declare their faith and promise to live and bring up their infant according to God's loving ways. Baptisms are not conducted during Lent or Advent. Please contact the Vicar to discuss baptism for yourself or your child.

GODPARENTS and PARENTS

When a child is baptised, parents may choose adult godparents as sponsors. It is expected that at least one parent and godparent will be baptised.

ADULT BAPTISM

Adults wishing to explore baptism, confirmation or reception into the Anglican Church from another denomination are welcome. The Anglican Church has always baptised adults (and young people able to make their own promises to God and the church). Adults wishing to know more about how to be baptised are encouraged to speak to the Vicar.  Adults should have a sponsor who has traveled with the candidate during a time of preparation.
